The Bunde and Bullerengue Festival will take over the Yaviza roads

The colorful Bunde and Bullerengue Festival will take place on Friday 27 and Sunday, July 28 in the town of Yaviza, Darien province. This event shows the traditional dances of the Darien region in a parade through town.


This year there will be folkloric groups from La Palma, Garachiné, Jaqué, El Real Tukuti, Zapallal, Meteti, Boca de Cupe, at the Friday parade, which will leave from the Yavizon Commercial Center at Yavizón up to the Yaviza community basketball court.


That day there will be exhibitions of dances from other parts of the country like the popular Congo, of Colon province, the “Sazon con Senafront” orchestra and “Los Niños Cantores de Décimas”, said Lesbia Aldeano, SEPRODACAN executive secretary.

The closure of the event on Saturday, July 28 will a day dedicated exclusively to highlight the Darien culture through the traditional dance of the region: Bunde and Bullerengue, and at 5:00 p.m. a folkloric mass will take place at the Saint Francis of Assisi Church.


The folkloric group performances will start at 6:00 p.m., in the artistic stage that will be installed by the Panama Tourism Authority, which is the main festival sponsor, at the basketball court of Yaviza.


In that place will be located the gastronomic road with around 20 stalls, where exquisite autochthonous food from the region will be offered at reasonable prices. During the days of the festival there will be a sale of handicraft made by artisans from the indigenous communities of the province.



Yaviza is a place full of history and biodiversity, where the San Geronimo Fort built by the Spaniards in the year 1760 and the Darién National Park, the largest of all the national parks of Panama and the second most important lung in America, declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) world heritage site in 1981 and biosphere reserve in 1983 can be found.


There are buses to the province of Darién and Yaviza from the Albrook National Bus Terminal. There are hostels where you can not only find accommodation, but also fishing and hiking excursions in places near the town. Darién is special and full of charming places waiting to be discovered.
