Boquete Jazz Festival this weekend

The Outside Jazz Band
The Outside Jazz Band entertains audiences with their
jazzy medleys in Panama’s popular mountain community of Boquete.

Jazz lovers have an opportunity for great music and socializing in Boquete, Chiriquí province with the Boquete Jazz Festival 2010. It is going on this weekend from Thursday, February 25 to Sunday, February 28. The festival starts with a cocktail gala on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and a concert by Chilean jazz singer and composer, Ammy Amorette. Admission for $15 will include up to three glasses of wine.

Friday’s events will start with a wine tasting at Casa del Risco Los Molionos from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a concert following at the Amphitheater Valle Escondido featuring the Outside Jazz Band and the Canadian Jon Day Jazz Quarter. Tickets will start at $10 for top row seats. A party at Amigo’s after the concert will be $3. Saturday’s concert starts at 8:00 p.m. and features the Outside Jazz Band and the Jon Day Jazz Quartet. The party after the concert will be at Zanzabar for $3. On Sunday the festivities will culminate with a concert in the park starting at 11:00 a.m. with Natural Sound Jr., Outside Jazz Band, Coro “A viva Voz” UNACHI, Sin Ensamble Jazz Quartet, and Ammy Amorette.

Metallica at Figali in March

Metallica at Figali

One of the best-selling rock groups in American history will be in concert at the Figali Convention Center on March 8 at 8:00 p.m. Metallica's "World Magnetic Tour" starts in Lima, Peru on January 19 and includes 34 concerts. Tickets to nine of the shows on the tour have already sold out.

Some tickets are still available for the Panama City show, but those who wish to attend this one-time event are advised to purchase soon. Representatives of ShowPro, organizers of the concert here, told The Visitor that tickets will likely run out in the weeks prior to the concert. Tickets start at $47 at TicketPlus locations.
