On this trip you walk to the top of Cerro de Pechito Parado, place of the first sighting of the South Sea by Europeans, then visit the beach in the Gulf of San Migual where Balboa took possession of the South Sea in 1513. Additionally you visit the capital of the Darien, La Palma, and colonial forts built in the 18th century at the mouth of the Rio Tuira.

Day 1 -Arrival at Darien
BALBOA ROUTE DARIEN 3 DAY TOUR. Departure early in the morning to Cucunatí, then you take 4WD transport Quebrada Eusebio, where you start your trekking adventure to the summit of Cerro Pechito Parado, a place where Vasco Nuñez de Balboa first sighted of the South Sea 500 years ago. The Spaniards were the first Europeans to have a glimpse of the Pacific from the Americas crossing Panama by foot. In the afternoon you will return to the camp hotel in Tortí.

Day 2 Discovering the South Sea and trekking the area
In the morning you will travel to the Gulf of San Miguel and visit the forts of Boca Grande (San Lorenzo) and Boca Chica (San Carlos). Lunch at La Palma, the capital of Darien, and then you will have a boat tour of the Gulf of San Miguel to the beach where Vasco Nunez de Balboa took the second possession of the South Sea in October, 1513. Here you will have time to  relax on the beach, then return to the port and hotel in Tortí. You will hike around the old trails with your naturalist guide.

Day 3 Return to Panama City or continue the Darién adventure
After breakfast we drive back to Panama City on the Pan-American highway. We will stop for a picnic lunch on a community in the tropical rain forest, and then return to the city arriving in the afternoon.
