Planes, music and games at the Rio Hato Air Show

The 2012 version of the Air Show was held in Howard International Airport where visitors enjoyed the aerial acrobatics.

This year, Panama’s traditional air show will take place at the newly inaugurated Scarlett Martinez Airport in Rio Hato, Coclé Province, on Saturday, January 18 and Sunday, January 19. There is no cost to attend the event.

The festivities begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, the Day of the Pilot, with the pilots performing practice runs. Musical act, Samy y Sandra Sandoval, will be performing as well and there will be presentations from folkloric dance troupes later in the day.

Sunday, January 19 will be full of activities, including airplane competitions, skydiving, an airplane exhibition and an aerial acrobatics show with national and international pilots. The sole Panamanian pilot performing in the acrobatics display is Danilo Caballero. From the United States the participating pilots are Melissa Pemberton, Skip Stewart, Gary Ward, Matt Youkin and Rafael Dondi Pesquera. From El Salvador participating pilots are Eduardo Poma and Carlos Dardano.

Children can enjoy a special games area and food will be available for sale. Coolers, outside food and beverages, and pets are not permitted at the event.

The Aerial Show is organized by Panama’s Civil Aviation Authority in conjunction with the Tourism Authority with private sponsors including Air Panama and Copa Airlines. For more information visit www.aeronautica.gob.pa.
